Gracie Bowen - Hero’s Journey
Gracie Bowen - Hero’s Journey
The Mundane World
Gracie is the only girl in a family of boys. She enjoys playing soccer with her brothers, especially Johnny. Her father coaches the boys all the time and ignores Gracie's interest.
The Call To Adventure
Johnny dies in a car accident and Gracie is inspired to take his place in the team.
Crossing The Threshold
Gracie's father humiliates her when she wants to show her talent. She begins smoking and dating the wrong boys, caring little about what happens to her. When she realizes this is not the way to remember Johnny, she begins training herself to develop the toughness required to play with the boys.
The Path of Trials
After trying by herself and giving up, Gracie's father begins coaching her. There is a reluctance to let her play on the boy's team from everyone from the coach to the principal to the other players. After a rigourous training regime the school tells Gracie that she's not allowed to play. With encouragement from her mother, Gracie fights the decision and is finally able to try out for the team. She faces underhanded play from a number of the boys and is put onto the junior varsity team. With the arrival of the rival Kingston team, Gracie is brought into the varsity team, wearing Johnny's number. Coming off the bench, she takes a free kick despite no confidence from her team mates. The kick misses, but she plays on to win the game.
Master of Two Worlds
Gracie's success brings happiness to her family, the school, and her team mates. It teaches those around her to not give up on their dreams and that anyone is capable of achieving their dreams.

Joseph Campbell first explored the Hero’s Journey in The Hero With A Thousand Faces and it has been thoroughly studied ever since. For the Hero Construction Company I’ve reduced it to five steps for easier digestion.
