Rita Borsellino
Rita Borsellino
Rita Borsellino’s brother was killed by the mafia - known locally as the Cosa Nostra. He was a judge campaigning against the mafia and was well aware that he would be killed one day. His death spurred Rita Borsellino to take action in his memory.
She formed numerous organizations to combat the influence wielded by the Cosa Nostra. Her main focus with Libera is youth. Her belief is that if she can convince the youth to stay away from the mafia life, they will weaken its structure.
As her fame grew, Borsellino was dram into politics and she has made inroads. Her campaign banners famously were created with white sheets and red painted letters. Another Story is a group formed to help support her methods and principals. As her work has expanded, so too has her vision. She now sees the mafia as more than a Sicilian problem, more than an Italian problem. She expects the whole of Europe to suffer from their practices and, in turn, expects Europe to help combat them.
